Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a collection of treatments to address limitations in movement or function. Often, this includes limitations due to pain. These treatments might include exercises, manual therapies, dry needling, electrical stimulation, and addressing things like footwear and workplace ergonomics. If your limitation is sport or exercise related, we can work with you on mechanics and routines specific to your goals. Our clinic is located inside the Spartan Elite 365 Gym. This gives us the freedom to work within a private PT office, or inside a fully outfitted gym, depending on our patient’s needs.

Every person and problem is different, and no one treatment approach will work in all circumstances. At Drive, a fully customized treatment plan is standard for each individual patient. We place a high value on helping our patients fully understand their condition and situation, and how they can effectively manage and treat their symptoms on their own, without the need for excessive medical intervention.  With this fully custom approach, we can get you moving and feeling better, with less hassle and down time.

Mobile Service

If you’re having difficulty fitting PT visits into your busy schedule, we can come to you! You don’t need a home gym or office workout room – we bring whatever equipment is needed, and only need a small open space for a treatment table. We can travel up to 25 miles from our clinic in Roanoke Rapids, or up to 75 miles for an additional charge. See the Scheduling tab for specifics and rates.

Sports Injury Rehab

Whether it’s a nagging pain or a full-on sprain, tear, dislocation or fracture, Drive Physio can help you return from being sidelined or not able to perform at your best. We have decades of experience working with recreational folks and weekend warriors, all the way through to professional athletes, and can work with you to get back in the game or on the track.  Like all of our patients, when we work with athletes, we always develop a customized plan that caters to their schedule, ability, strength and goals. This approach includes not only rehab and recovery from the current injury, but also a long term plan to minimize the chance of recurrence in the future.

Surgical Rehab

If you’ve recently had or are planning on having an orthopedic surgical procedure, we can help with the recovery and rehab process. Just like with our non-surgical patients, we will work with you to establish a custom plan, within the limitations of the surgical repair. In most cases, there is a great deal that can be done beyond what is on the standard recovery protocol in order to make an efficient and full return to activity. This is especially true if you plan to return to a functional level higher than the normal sedentary adult.

Sometimes the formal physical therapy portion of surgery rehab is short, with some range of motion work, checkups on benchmark, and thorough education on how to move through the necessary exercises. Other times, the process might be longer, with more work and one-on-one time required. In these cases, we can work with you on a package price, in order to reduce the cost while still maximizing your function and outcome.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment approach used to address tight or guarded muscles, referred pain, or general muscle dysfunction. A thin monofilament needling is inserted into the muscle to change the local muscle activation or holding, reduce referred pain, and improve the muscle’s function. These needles are much smaller than those used to administer injections or draw blood, and as a result, there is significantly less discomfort. Often, the patient cannot even feel the needle pass into the skin, and might feel a sensation similar to a deep tissue massage rather than the pinching normally associated with needles.  This approach will often get results in decreased muscle guarding, reduced soreness, less pain, and improved muscle function quicker than other manual therapy treatments.

We do offer dry needling as a stand-alone treatment, but it is important to recognize how it can fit in a full treatment plan. If you have not seen us before for an evaluation, we ask that you contact us prior to scheduling a dry needling session.

If you are seeing us for a standard PT or mobile PT appointment, there is no additional charge for dry needling.
